Letter
to Parents from the Kids Corner...
Welcome to Jesus Kids.
We take every possible precaution to make sure that your children
are safe when in Jesus Kids and when surfing online in general.
There is no way to be 100% sure that your children are safe online
other than to be with them when they are online. We highly recommend
and ask that the kids and parents read our safety
tips for kids together and that all parents make sure your
children understand the safety guidelines before allowing them to
surf online. Additionally, we have a "Family
Internet Safety Contract" for you and your child to sign,
indicating that they understand the rules for safe surfing.
Take a moment to print it out, go over it with your child, and have
them sign.
While we want to make Jesus Kids and the Internet a safe, fun and
educational place for all kids, our main concern is keeping them
safe. So please, keep a close eye on your children when they are
online and make sure they understand the safety
tips.
Any information gathered from Jesus Kids will never be shared with
or sold to any third party.
We invite
you to get involved and make Jesus Kids a wonderful place for kids to
make friends, learn, and have fun!
Jesus Kids
is created and maintained by Web Design By TLC and The Valens and we are
dedicated to all our children's online safety! If you ever have a
question, comment or concern, please email me at fvpv7@sbcglobal.net.
Here are
some tips for parents:
- Establish online rules
and an agreement with your child about Internet use at home and
outside of the home (i.e., at a friend's house, at school, at the
library, etc.)
See Family
Internet Safety Contract.
- Spend time online
alongside your child and establish an atmosphere of trust regarding
computer usage and online activities.
- Place your computer in
an area of your home where you can easily supervise your child's
Internet activity.
- Regularly ask your
kids about their online friends and activities. Role play with your
child various dangerous scenarios that they could encounter online.
- Implement software
tools to protect your family from the intrusion of inappropriate
content and sexual predators.
- Recognize that chat
rooms are the playground of today's sexual predator. Only direct,
over-the shoulder parental supervision of your child's chat-room
session is advised in un-monitored chat-rooms. . Chat-room services
that provide human monitors are generally more safe than
un-monitored chat rooms, however, parental supervision is essential.
- Block instant/personal
messages from people you and your child don't know. Regularly check
your child's buddy list to ensure that it has not been altered.
- Do not permit your
child to have an online profile. With this restriction, he or she
will not be listed in directories and is less likely to be
approached in chat rooms where pedophiles often search for prey.
(Some Online Service Providers such as America Online, offer
subscribers online profiles.)
- Check with your
child's school to see if student projects, artwork, or photos (where
material is identified by name) are being put on school home pages.
Schools often want to post school newsletters or sports scores, but
every time a name or photo is displayed, there is vulnerability.
Schools need to be reminded of that risk and encouraged to allow
access to student activities posted on the school's website by
password only.
- Monitor the amount of
time your child spends on the Internet, and at what times of day.
Excessive time online, especially at night, may indicate a problem.
Remind your child that Internet use is a privilege, not a right.
- Watch for changes in
your child's behavior (mention of adults you don't know,
secretiveness, inappropriate sexual knowledge, sleeping problems,
etc.).
- Report any content or
activity that you suspect as illegal or criminal to local law
enforcement and to the following cybercrime hotlines.
- Cyber
Watch 911
- CyberTip
Line
- Report Child
Sexual Abuse

Warning Signs:
Here are a few warnings
signs that your child may have a problem with pornography on the
Internet.
Your child is hiding disks.
Your child spends an
inordinate amount of time on the Internet or is online late into the
night.
Your child uses computer
files that end in .gif or .jpg. These are picture files that may contain
the latest Hubble telescope photos or pornographic material.
You discover unusual
charges on your credit card statements. Be especially suspicious of
phone charges that identify themselves as "Web Site." Many
pornographers don't provide their names to avoid raising parental
concern.
Your child quickly
changes the computer screen when you enter the room.
You notice changes in
your child's behavior (mention of adults you don't know, secretiveness,
inappropriate sexual knowledge, sleeping problems, etc.).
NOTE TO PARENTS:
We will actively review all sites on a regular basis for appropriate
content, but nothing can compare to adult supervision to insure your
child is safe on the internet!
